Install Boundary clients
Install the Boundary CLI, Boundary Desktop Client app, or Boundary Client Agent to give end users command-line, graphical, or transparent-session access to infrastructure targets. Use the Boundary installer to get all three components together for Windows, MacOS, or Linux.
To learn about installing the Boundary binary when you deploy Boundary controllers or workers, refer to the Install Boundary page.
The Boundary installer bundles together the following components:
- Boundary binary (CLI)
- Boundary Desktop Client app
- Boundary Client Agent
Download the appropriate Boundary installer for your Windows, MacOS, or Linux environment from the Boundary installer downloads page or the releases page.
The Client Agent does not have a standalone binary, so you must use the Boundary installer to install or update it. You can download the Boundary binary or Desktop Client app individually, but compatibility is not guaranteed. Refer to the Supported versions policy to learn more.
The Client Agent and the installer use the same major number as the current Boundary release. However, the installer's minor number may differ if an update is released for the Client Agent only. For example, the current Boundary release may be version 0.21.1, but the Boundary installer could be version 0.21.2.
Refer to the Transparent sessions interoperability matrix for a list of third-party products that have been tested and confirmed to work with the Boundary Client Agent to provide transparent sessions.
To learn more about installing the Boundary CLI and Boundary Desktop Client app, refer to the Get started with HCP Boundary tutorials, which cover installing clients for HCP (HashiCorp Cloud Platform) Boundary.
